John Foltz: listen

Standing Still

In the interests of stark contrast and brutal honesty, sometimes I’m an unparalleled jerk. This song was written shortly before a hugely bad, very bad, disastrous debacle of self-sabotage that I find remarkable for one person to have accomplished single-handedly. To amplify my general idiocy, I wrote this song without any conscious awareness towards said idiocy. A guilty subconscious is an ugly bitch with a mirror.
It's coming just like the time I fell
Take cover, 'cause it's gonna hurt like hell

Don't ask me, don't make me choose to ignore
Don't ask me, just slip outside the back door
Don't ask me, my bloods been spilled on the floor

Everybody's talking, but my ears have fallen asleep
No peace is earned if the world turns while I am standing still

Who said that it's never safe to assume?
Who said that love is an empty bedroom?
Who said that the stench would be covered by cheap perfume?

Everybody's talking, but my ears have fallen asleep
No peace is earned if the world turns while I am standing still

I'm weary of theory, talk is so cheap
Denial is the style of the company I keep
The numbing is coming, closer it creeps
The slaughter is hotter when you're the next sheep

Everybody's talking, but my ears have fallen asleep
No peace is earned if the world turns while I am standing still
